Description

I am in the Phansad reserve forest right now.
Shot this yesterday. This is a green Damselfly.
The damsel fly always sit with their wing closed unlike the dragon flies. The are very canibalistic & eat everything even their own breed. Shot this with 18-55 lense.

As usual FRANK C&C is welcome. I am not too sure of the composition here. Do give ur suggestion.

# sorry for my absence on GFX, will comment on ur works when i get back :)

Nice work Rushi. The composition works ok. Perhaps if the leaf that the damesel fly is sitting on is not too blurred, showing more of it and having the shot composed portrait wise, the dynamics of leafs diagonal would compliment that of the damselfly. The selective focus is great, as are the colors. Colours and focus are great! Very good capture. Personally I would suggest to leave a bit more space above the fly, to create a greater sense of depth and space.

Great.

I would like it more if her "tail" was not blurred.

Great shot...I d like it better if the tail was focused and there was a little more space on the right but I know that these kind of shots are very difficult ones so... top marks from me...

Great shot, and a very unusual one to see from you! I

I woul have liket some more space at the top, but that's me. I always like to leave space for things to move.

I can't for my life understand how this could be taken with a 18-55 lense, but maybe I've just never tried myself. Good work anyway!

Thanks for ur Crits & comments guys..
Guess the orignal photo will allow to add more space at TOP.. Though i will have to check.. If possible i will post the modified version soon..

@  Azurite : Well buddy just get as close to the fly as the lense would allow & shoot at 5.6 ;) ... U just have to gain confidence of the fly to allow U that close. I got a BLUE TIGER butterfly just as close too :) will see if its good enough to post.

@  ahwayakchih & vanamont : Thnx guys, i think that is the only thing that would have made this even perfect for me. But it not always possible to get that close. Also the tail actually moved when i shot. All 3 shots I got have it blurred by movement. But i think it also works here in its own way.
@ Elite, GFXartist sponsor monjo : U r right man.. Ofcourse the expert of this domain. Didn't think of it from that viewpoint. I will see if i have more of the leaf in the orignal shot.

All things considered, this shot is amazing. Of course, it would have been nicer with a little larger depth of field to have more of the leaf and its tail in focus, but considering that your subject was not necessarily a willing model, I think you made an optimal image of this scene. I especially like the diagonal leading line of the composition and its beautiful eyes and thorax at the critical intersection in the image. - jason

Ahhh ... my favorite insect! Very nice photo! The lighting has brought out those beautiful highlights and iridescence. I also enjoy the background. This damselfly by the way is of the genus Calopteryx. The common name of the genus is Jewelwing.

Very nice!
